Surprise church is a community of believers. What does that mean, the word community? We believe that together in fellowship we grow closer to God and one another. The bible speaks about iron sharpening iron. We believe that together we grow stronger. We are a community of believers. 

 

Surprise Church strives to be a church without walls. Jesus calls for us to go outside the walls to reach the lost and the broken. It is there that the lost will be found. Surprise Church makes an effort to be like the church from the book of Acts, to see our city changed.

 

Surprise Church highly values our relationships with one another. We look to grow through fellowship, and ultimately growing closer to God. We value the word of God, and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. We look to extend grace to all of the lost and broken, and lead those with no hope to the hope of Jesus Christ.

OUR HISTORY

SMALL BEGINNINGS

  1. Founded in 2014 by Pastor Matt Anderson with support of a small team and Charity Lutheran Church.

  2. Our "launch team" was inspired to create a place that lived out the vision of a church that would welcome people from any background into a warm and accepting community, where they find space and support to grow. 

  3. By 2009 we outgrew our first building, and moved into our second building

  4. While Sunday morning worship is incredible and inviting, visitors are pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to belong in our "Community Groups" and "Serving Teams," where they experience the true joy of the Surprise family. 

  5. Surprise Church has always been a "portable" church because we love using all of our resources to invest in life-change and community-impact, and we can't wait for you to experience it! 

OUR STAFF

Matt Anderson

Lead Pastor

A former college athlete, Matt is an author, speaker, pastor, leadership coach, and all around nice guy. He is a lover of good steak and an enemy of mosquitoes. Matt and his wife, Lacee have three children, who look for ways to give their dad gray hair each day.

Ann Hagerott

Discipleship Director

Lisa Chen is our associate pastor and main assistant to pastor Ken. Anything that gets done around here, you can be sure that Lisa was the mastermind behind it. We are so thankful for her heart to serve the Lord.

Dave Wisham

Worship Director

A jack of all trades, there is literally nothing that Dave can’t figure out and do well, including leading our worship team on Sundays! Dave has become our worship leader after serving many years as a volunteer band member. He is excited to help musicians grow into their gifts and to develop our church’s commitment to worship God!

Carly Matson

Children's Ministry Director

Cyndi has a knack for cheering people on. A member of one of our thriving Community Groups for married couples, she has embraced the role of leading our efforts to care for people at Surprise. She’ll be developing a “care team” of people who share her heart for people, and she’ll be the first point of contact when Surprise community members have needs or prayer requests. 

Barb Antoine

Family Ministries Director

Barb is a human magnet that everyone loves to be around. She loves kids and leads our team of amazing volunteers in order to support families. Every Sunday at Surprise, Barb makes sure that kids experience a sense of belonging and leave with a bright smile on their face. Barb has also led a Community Group in her home, where many families have found meaningful relationships and grown in their faith. 

JR Kasper

Operations Director

After serving as a tireless volunteer and leader at Surprise, JR has agreed to oversee our operations as director. He’ll bring order to our internal systems and coordinate with our Stewardship Team to manage and oversee our fiscal priorities. JR and his wife Jeannie are a rich blessing to Surprise Church.

Amanda Cavette

Admin Assistant

Amanda helps our team to stay organized and effective. She often works quietly behind the scenes, but she makes a huge difference!
